Latest Digital Printing Technology

Digital printing technology involves use of ink in various ways. The inkjet printing technology is the most commonly used technology. It may use a nozzle or a valve to control the amount of ink being released. The different ways which are employed to drop ink are drop on demand and continuous jet.

The continuous jet type of method uses single jet or multiple jets for releasing ink and the drop on demand method involves ways such as Valve jet method, piezo-electric method, bubble jet and hot melt methods. The continuous jet method uses a nozzle. The nozzle provides ink for printing. The amount of ink being released is controlled by electrostatic charge, when ink droplets leave the mouth of the nozzle.

This technology happens to be the oldest among all. In the bubble jet technique of providing ink, digital data causes a resistive heat element to heat up the nozzle containing the ink. The ink boils because of this heat and the causes only a specific amount of ink to come out of the nozzle in form of a bubble, which is required to print that data stream. This type of printer is also termed as a thermal inkjet printer. This printer is considered to be slower compared to other printers.

Piezoelectric type of digital printing is considered to be the easiest methods of all. As the name suggests the piezoelectric effect produces signals and these signals are received by the crystals of Lead zirconium titanate. These crystals in turn expand and apply pressure on the ink. The ink is projected out as and when the signals are received. This method has many advantages over thermal printing as it does not depend on heat.

It is more reliable and is extremely useful for printing pages in large numbers. The resolution is also better than the other methods of printing. There are many advantages of digital printing. Conventional printing is more time consuming especially if high volumes of pages are to be printed.  In the case of printing presses the conventional printing requires the pages to be dried before they can be cut and stapled to form books.

On the other hand, in case of digital printing the pages are ready to be made into booklets as soon as they come out from the printer.The materials used in conventional printing are more and it entails a lot of waste compared to digital printing. Welding is a method of joining two or more pieces of metal together using various techniques such as spot welding and arc-welding. Laser beam welding is another of these techniques and uses high powered lasers to join multiple pieces of metal together. To produce deep welds a continuous laser is used but on thinner materials such as very thin sheet metals a pulsed laser using pulses only milliseconds long are employed. There are two types of lasers which are commonly in use and these are gas lasers and solid state lasers.

The first type uses mixtures of gases such as nitrogen, helium and carbon dioxide as a medium, whilst solid state lasers use solid medias such as chromium in aluminium oxide, synthetic ruby, neodymium in glass, and the most common type used is crystal which is composed of yttrium aluminium garnet doped with neodymium. When the mediums of either type of laser are excited, they emit photons and form a laser beam.

With a gas laser the lasing medium is produced by using high voltage and low current power sources to excite the mixture, and these lasers can operate in both pulsed and continuous mode. The power requirements for gas lasers are generally much higher than solid state lasers, and can reach 25kW. Solid state lasers have wavelengths much shorter than gas lasers, and operators need to protect their eyes with special goggles or specially designed screens to prevent damage to the retina within the eyes.

To deliver the laser beam to the required weld area, fibre optics are usually employed. Another type of laser is the fibre laser and the gain medium is the optical fibre itself. Oxidizing uses a mild acid to blacken the engraving performed on brass or aluminum. Brass has a lacquer coating or a similar finish and the aluminum is usually coated with lacquer or it can be anodized. Oxidizing substance is best applied with the cotton swabs as opposed to a dauber and always remember to keep the engraver free from oil or fingerprints. Apply oxidizer soon after the engraving process is completed, so the full effect of the oxidizer can be applied in the process. Paint Stick - Applying a color to the work of engraving equipment can be done only on rotary engraved plates which have sufficient depth. This is usually done using paint through a paint stick that looks like a large crayon and they come in a variety of colors and are easy to use.

You just start by shaving the end of the paint stick to remove the skin on it, then rub the stick across the engraving as if using the crayon until all the letters are filled, wipe off the excess paint with a paper towel as well. Both alcohol and paint thinner work well in removing any excess film that does not wipe away easily, but you will find it much easier to let the paint dry overnight and later wash it with warm water. Paint sticks are convenient and durable, but they don't have smooth gloss that you'll get from actual paint.

Paint filling offers the best options for coloring the work of engraving equipment when it comes to materials, colors and applications. Metals and rigid plastics generally work best with fast-drying, oil based enamel with mineral spirits for cleaning. Soft plastics and other materials may be damaged by caustic solvents, but latex or acrylic paints work best with alcohol or water used for cleanup. Aside from the paint, you will also need a brush, an old phone book or newspaper and stiff pieces of tough paper closer to the size and weight of your average business card.

Always make sure that the engraving is smooth, burr free and have enough depth in holding the paint. When using engraving equipments, you'll require coloring options. The right method depends on the material and depth of the paint. Coloring gives the engraver more to work during the creation of an attractive sign with eye catching lettering and it is always best to have options.
